Moissanite

Puremo® Moissanite

Elevating Ethical Luxury

Moissanite is extremely rare in nature, which is why it must be created in a lab to produce exquisite gemstones for fine jewelry. Purenoasis was born from a vision — to create stunning, sustainable, and ethically-driven jewelry that not only dazzles with brilliance but also makes a positive impact on the world.

Made differently, shines differently

From independent artisans to major jewelry brands, moissanite has become a sought-after alternative to mined diamonds for its brilliance and ethical appeal. But not all moissanite is of the same caliber.

At Purenoasis, we take pride in offering only the finest lab-grown moissanite, produced with advanced technology and precision craftsmanship. Our stones are not just environmentally friendly; they’re also breathtakingly beautiful, with the same chemical, physical, and optical properties as earth-mined diamonds — but without the environmental toll.

What is moissanite?

Moissanite is a gemstone born from the stars. It was first discovered in 1893 by French scientist Henri Moissan, who later won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Moissan found particles of this remarkable gem in Arizona, in a crater created by a meteorite that had fallen to Earth. Initially, he believed he had discovered diamonds, but upon further analysis, he determined the crystals were composed of silicon carbide.

Natural moissanite is exceedingly rare, so the moissanite available today is lab-created. After years of experimentation and refinement, the particles Moissan discovered were successfully synthesized to create what is now one of the world’s most brilliant gemstones.

Although moissanite is engineered to resemble diamonds, it is chemically and visually distinct. The durability, brilliance, and fire of the two gemstones differ significantly, though both are excellent thermal conductors.

Durability

Moissanite is exceptionally durable and tough, second only to diamond in its resistance to scratching and abrasion. It scores a 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it one of the hardest gemstones available.

Durability

The most striking feature of moissanite is its brilliance. When we refer to its brilliance, we are talking about its exceptional sparkle. With a high refractive index of 2.65, moissanite is scientifically recognized as the most brilliant gemstone on Earth.

Durability

Another defining characteristic of moissanite is its fire, or dispersion. This phenomenon occurs when light passes through the gemstone at different wavelengths, creating beautiful flashes of color throughout the stone.
